Print SBLGNT's εἶναι νεκροὺς μέν with medium confidence (a minor word-order unit). ℵ* B C support it, and the Byzantine order is a smoothing. The omission (A D F G) is the main alternative, since the varying position of εἶναι can point to an addition. The sense is the same in every form: count yourselves dead to sin and alive to God.

Manuscripts (Tischendorf 8, vol. 2 (1872), p. 392, leaf n399): εἶναι first: ℵ* B C, Cyril, John of Damascus. εἶναι after μέν: ℵc K L P and most others, vg, syr^p, Origen (Greek catena and Latin), Didymus, Basil, Chrysostom, Euthalius, Theodoret, Hilary, Ambrosiaster. εἶναι omitted: A D E F G, two minuscules, d* e f g (d* e and fu also omit μέν); syrsch, cop, arm, aeth, and Tertullian do not express it.

Internal: the infinitive is easily added or moved after a verb of reckoning; its three positions suggest it may be secondary.
