Print the accusative, the SBLGNT base text. Which reading is original is uncertain, and no lean is taken. The accusative has B with the Western and Byzantine witnesses, the early Latin and Syriac versions, and Irenaeus, Origen, and Tertullian; the genitive has ℵ A C, the Egyptian versions, and Clement and Hippolytus, and NA28 and WH print it. The BSB follows the genitive ("through His Spirit"). Both make God the one who gives life and tie it to the Spirit who dwells in believers.

Genitive: ℵ A C (C* with a slip in αὐτοῦ), P2, fifteen minuscules, sah (in Woide's edition; Griesbach cites it for the accusative), cop arm aeth, Clement, Hippolytus, Methodius, Athanasius, Didymus, Basil, Epiphanius, Cyril of Jerusalem, Chrysostom, Cyril, Macarius, John of Damascus, Augustine. Methodius and Chrysostom are cited on both sides. Tischendorf notes that the reading was argued over in the fourth-century debate on the Spirit.

Internal: διά with the genitive, "through," makes the Spirit the agent of the raising, which suited that debate; the accusative, "because of," makes the indwelling Spirit the ground. Either change is easy in copying.
