Rom 9:25–26: Hos 2:23 (MT 2:25) and 1:10 (MT 2:1)
Says English Hos 1:10 and 2:23 are 2:1 and 2:25 in the MT and LXX; Swete prints 1:10 and 2:23 with the other numbers in the margin.
Says Hos 2:23 (MT 2:25) reads וְרִחַמְתִּי אֶת־לֹא רֻחָמָה (verikhamti et-lo rukhamah, "I will have compassion on ‘No Compassion.’" BSB) and וְאָמַרְתִּי לְלֹא־עַמִּי עַמִּי־אַתָּה (ve'amarti lelo-'ammi 'ammi-attah, "I will say to those called ‘Not My People,’ ‘You are My people,’" BSB).
Says Swete has ἀγαπήσω τὴν Οὐκ ἠγαπημένην, καὶ ἐρῶ τῷ Οὐ λαῷ μου Λαός μου εἶ σύ; A and Q have "have mercy" forms, nearer the Hebrew. Paul's Καλέσω τὸν οὐ λαόν μου λαόν μου καὶ τὴν οὐκ ἠγαπημένην ἠγαπημένην follows B's "beloved" but uses Καλέσω, "I will call," and puts "not my people" first.
Says Hos 1:10 (MT 2:1) ends יֵאָמֵר לָהֶם בְּנֵי אֵל־חָי (ye'amer lahem bene el-khay, "it will be said to them, ‘sons of the living God’" literal). Swete has κληθήσονται καὶ αὐτοὶ υἱοὶ θεοῦ ζῶντος; Paul's ἐκεῖ κληθήσονται υἱοὶ θεοῦ ζῶντος adds ἐκεῖ and omits καὶ αὐτοὶ, both as in A.
Says Hosea spoke of Israel (Hos 1:6–10), and Paul applies the words to the Gentiles as well (9:24–26).
Uncertain How Paul justifies that application. Options: a principle drawn by analogy (God makes "not my people" his people); a fulfillment reaching beyond Hosea's horizon; or the restoration of the northern tribes, scattered among the nations, taking in Gentiles.
