From inside the fish, Jonah prayed to the Lord his God, (MT 2:2; LXX 2:2; Rahlfs 2:2)
2saying: “In my distress I called to the Lord, and He answered me. From the belly of Sheol I called for help, and You heard my voice. (MT 2:3; LXX 2:3; Rahlfs 2:3)
3For You cast me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the current swirled about me; all Your breakers and waves swept over me. (MT 2:4; LXX 2:4; Rahlfs 2:4)
4At this, I said, ‘I have been banished from Your sight; yet I will look once more toward Your holy temple.’ (MT 2:5; LXX 2:5; Rahlfs 2:5)
5The waters engulfed me to take my life; the watery depths closed around me; the seaweed wrapped around my head. (MT 2:6; LXX 2:6; Rahlfs 2:6)
6To the roots of the mountains I descended; the earth beneath me barred me in forever! But You raised my life from the pit, O Lord my God! (MT 2:7; LXX 2:7; Rahlfs 2:7)
7As my life was fading away, I remembered the Lord. My prayer went up to You, to Your holy temple. (MT 2:8; LXX 2:8; Rahlfs 2:8)
8Those who cling to worthless idols forsake His loving devotion. (MT 2:9; LXX 2:9; Rahlfs 2:9)
9But I, with the voice of thanksgiving, will sacrifice to You. I will fulfill what I have vowed. Salvation is from the Lord!” (MT 2:10; LXX 2:10; Rahlfs 2:10)
10And the Lord commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land. (MT 2:11; LXX 2:11; Rahlfs 2:11)
