A song of ascents. Of David. If the Lord had not been on our side—let Israel now declare— (LXX 123:1; Rahlfs 123:1)
2if the Lord had not been on our side when men attacked us, (LXX 123:2; Rahlfs 123:2)
3when their anger flared against us, then they would have swallowed us alive, (LXX 123:3; Rahlfs 123:3)
4then the floods would have engulfed us, then the torrent would have overwhelmed us, (LXX 123:4; Rahlfs 123:4)
5then the raging waters would have swept us away. (LXX 123:5; Rahlfs 123:5)
6Blessed be the Lord, who has not given us as prey to their teeth. (LXX 123:6; Rahlfs 123:6)
7We have escaped like a bird from the snare of the fowler; the net is torn, and we have slipped away. (LXX 123:7; Rahlfs 123:7)
8Our help is in the name of the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. (LXX 123:8; Rahlfs 123:8)
