προηγέομαι proēgeomai
go before · lead · prefer
Team definition
Ordinarily, to go before as a leader, in classical use with a genitive or dative. The Septuagint uses it in that leading sense. At Rom 12:10, ἀλλήλους προηγούμενοι (allēlous proēgoumenoi) is not matched by that ordinary construction. Two lexical readings are current: leading one another onward by example, or counting one another as more important (preferring one another in honor). The entry does not decide between them.
