Hab 2:4 in Rom 1:17: Paul, LXX (Swete), MT, and Heb 10:38

Paul (SBLGNT): Ὁ δὲ δίκαιος ἐκ πίστεως ζήσεται, with no pronoun. Gal 3:11 has the same, without δέ.

LXX (Swete, vol. 3, p. 59; scan-checked): ὁ δὲ δίκαιος ἐκ πίστεώς μου ζήσεται, "by my faithfulness." The apparatus reads "δικαιος] + μου A." Swete records nothing at μου for ℵ or Q, and no C.

MT (OSHB): וְצַדִּיק בֶּאֱמוּנָתוֹ יִחְיֶה (vetsaddiq be'emunato yikhyeh). OSHB morphology: - וְצַדִּיק: conjunction + adjective (HC/Aamsa) - בֶּאֱמוּנָתוֹ: preposition + noun + 3ms suffix (HR/Ncfsc/Sp3ms) - יִחְיֶה: Qal imperfect 3ms (HVqi3ms)

Heb 10:38: SBLGNT (with WH, Treg and NA28, per its apparatus) has ὁ δὲ δίκαιός μου ἐκ πίστεως ζήσεται: μου after δίκαιος, as in A, but not after πίστεως. RP2018 and TR have no μου.

Says The 3ms suffix agrees with צַדִּיק, the nearest masculine singular noun and the subject of יִחְיֶה. Paul matches neither "his" (MT) nor "my" (LXX).

Says אֱמוּנָה means steadiness or faithfulness (BDB p. 53; Exod 17:12, Moses' hands אֱמוּנָה, "steady").

Implies The suffix most likely refers to the righteous one himself. The root אמן also gives וְהֶאֱמִן, "he believed" (Gen 15:6), which Paul pairs with Hab 2:4 in Gal 3:6–11. LXX πίστις covers both trust and steadfastness. Paul brings out trust in God's word without denying perseverance.

Uncertain - The suffix could refer to the vision (חָזוֹן, 2:2–3: "by its reliability"). This ranks well below the righteous one. God is very unlikely, because God speaks in 2:2–5, so "his" would be "my." - ἐκ πίστεως may go with ὁ δίκαιος or with ζήσεται.
