ἀπέθανεν ἐφάπαξ … λογίζεσθε … ἁμαρτία ὑμῶν οὐ κυριεύσει (6:8–14)
Says Death οὐκέτι κυριεύει (kyrieuei, "has dominion") over the risen Christ (6:9). He died τῇ ἁμαρτίᾳ, a dative of reference as in 6:2, 11, ἐφάπαξ (ephapax), "once for all" (Abbott-Smith; Heb 7:27; 9:12; note.exegetical.Rom.3.25.hilasterion-propitiation). In 6:13 believers present (παρίστημι) their members as ὅπλα (hopla) to God, not to sin (text of 6:11: var.Rom.6.11.einai-order).
Uncertain λογίζεσθε (logizesthe, 6:11). This note leans to the imperative, "count yourselves" (BSB): οὕτως καὶ ὑμεῖς draws a conclusion, and imperatives follow (6:12–13). The alternative is the indicative, "you consider," which has the same form.
Uncertain ὅπλα. This note leans to "instruments" (BSB): Abbott-Smith puts Rom 6:13 under "a tool, implement, instrument." The alternative is "weapons," the usual plural sense (13:12; 2 Cor 6:7).
Uncertain ἁμαρτία … οὐ κυριεύσει (kyrieusei, 6:14). This note leans to a promise, not a command: its ground (γάρ) is that believers are not ὑπὸ νόμον but ὑπὸ χάριν. The alternative is an imperatival future, "sin must not rule," continuing the commands of 6:12–13.
Implies Not under law means not under the law as a way to be justified or as sin's ruling power (7:5, 8–11).
Implies This gives no license to sin: 6:15 asks the question and refuses it. The salvation-history reading takes "under law" as the Mosaic era now past (Gal 3:23–25); on the New Perspective see note.historical.Rom.3.1-Rom.3.31.works-of-the-law-4qmmt.
