A Psalm of Asaph. Surely God is good to Israel, to those who are pure in heart. (LXX 72:1; Rahlfs 72:1)
2But as for me, my feet had almost stumbled; my steps had nearly slipped. (LXX 72:2; Rahlfs 72:2)
3For I envied the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. (LXX 72:3; Rahlfs 72:3)
4They have no struggle in their death; their bodies are well-fed. (LXX 72:4; Rahlfs 72:4)
5They are free of the burdens others carry; they are not afflicted like other men. (LXX 72:5; Rahlfs 72:5)
6Therefore pride is their necklace; a garment of violence covers them. (LXX 72:6; Rahlfs 72:6)
7From their prosperity proceeds iniquity; the imaginations of their hearts run wild. (LXX 72:7; Rahlfs 72:7)
8They mock and speak with malice; with arrogance they threaten oppression. (LXX 72:8; Rahlfs 72:8)
9They set their mouths against the heavens, and their tongues strut across the earth. (LXX 72:9; Rahlfs 72:9)
10So their people return to this place and drink up waters in abundance. (LXX 72:10; Rahlfs 72:10)
11The wicked say, “How can God know? Does the Most High have knowledge?” (LXX 72:11; Rahlfs 72:11)
12Behold, these are the wicked—always carefree as they increase their wealth. (LXX 72:12; Rahlfs 72:12)
13Surely in vain I have kept my heart pure; in innocence I have washed my hands. (LXX 72:13; Rahlfs 72:13)
14For I am afflicted all day long and punished every morning. (LXX 72:14; Rahlfs 72:14)
15If I had said, “I will speak this way,” then I would have betrayed Your children. (LXX 72:15; Rahlfs 72:15)
16When I tried to understand all this, it was troublesome in my sight (LXX 72:16; Rahlfs 72:16)
17until I entered God’s sanctuary; then I discerned their end. (LXX 72:17; Rahlfs 72:17)
18Surely You set them on slick ground; You cast them down into ruin. (LXX 72:18; Rahlfs 72:18)
19How suddenly they are laid waste, completely swept away by terrors! (LXX 72:19; Rahlfs 72:19)
20Like one waking from a dream, so You, O Lord, awaken and despise their form. (LXX 72:20; Rahlfs 72:20)
21When my heart was grieved and I was pierced within, (LXX 72:21; Rahlfs 72:21)
22I was senseless and ignorant; I was a brute beast before You. (LXX 72:22; Rahlfs 72:22)
23Yet I am always with You; You hold my right hand. (LXX 72:23; Rahlfs 72:23)
24You guide me with Your counsel, and later receive me in glory. (LXX 72:24; Rahlfs 72:24)
25Whom have I in heaven but You? And on earth I desire no one besides You. (LXX 72:25; Rahlfs 72:25)
26My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. (LXX 72:26; Rahlfs 72:26)
27Those far from You will surely perish; You destroy all who are unfaithful to You. (LXX 72:27; Rahlfs 72:27)
28But as for me, it is good to draw near to God. I have made the Lord GOD my refuge, that I may proclaim all Your works. (LXX 72:28; Rahlfs 72:28)
