λατρεία latreia
service · divine service · worship
Team definition
Service, including hired service in classical use, and in biblical Greek divine service or worship. Septuagint examples use it of service offered to God. In the New Testament it names worship or cultic service (John 16:2; Rom 9:4; Heb 9:1, 6). Rom 12:1 places it in apposition to the offering of the body (τὴν λογικὴν λατρείαν ὑμῶν). The word itself marks the act as service or worship; it does not by itself fix the adjective that qualifies it.
