ἀνακαίνωσις anakainōsis
renewal · renovation
Team definition
A noun from ἀνακαινόω: renewal or renovation. It occurs with the mind in Rom 12:2 (τῇ ἀνακαινώσει τοῦ νοός) and with the Spirit in Titus 3:5. Older lexicons set it beside παλινγενεσία as a subsequent renovation in which the person as well as God is involved; that comparison is a lexical note, not a doctrinal conclusion drawn from either verse. The genitive in Rom 12:2 identifies what is renewed; the entry does not decide the mechanism.
