τέλος telos
end · aim, purpose · tax
Team definition
End or limit of an act, state, or period; also the issue or outcome; also the aim or purpose; and, in another sense, a toll or customs duty (Rom 13:7). A metonymic use treats the word as the person who brings something to an end. In Rom 10:4 τέλος γὰρ νόμου Χριστός the noun stands in relation to νόμου. Both termination and aim are attested senses of the word; which sense that clause takes is a question of context, not of the lexicon entry alone.
