Editorial decision: print the text without ἐστιν with high confidence: ℵ* A B D E F G and most versions, against later manuscripts; the addition supplies an understood verb. Says The sense is the same: Paul's prayer is for their salvation.

Editions (checked 2026-11-04): SBLGNT, RP2018, TR (local files); WH on the pinned scan (p. 366); Treg and NA28 from the SBLGNT apparatus; NA28 by reference only. Sigla: corrector notation as in Tischendorf (ℵc, Db,c and the like). Minuscules are Gregory–Aland numbers, with Tischendorf's Pauline number once in parentheses; those not verified are counted, not listed. Witnesses are listed only where Tischendorf names them.

SBLGNT, NA28, WH, Treg, and Tischendorf 8 have no verb; RP2018 and TR add ἐστιν. Tischendorf records this apart from ὑπὲρ αὐτῶν / τοῦ Ἰσραήλ (var.Rom.10.1.hyper-auton), and the witnesses divide differently: P has αὐτῶν but adds ἐστιν.

Manuscripts (Tischendorf 8, vol. 2 (1872), p. 417, leaf n424 (novumtestamentum02tisc)): as listed in the readings; the first also has 1908 (Tisch. 47) and two more minuscules and a lectionary, the second most others. Tischendorf adds d***, vg, Origen (Lat.), Augustine, and Ambrosiaster with a verb placed before "for them."

Internal: Greek often leaves the verb out of such a clause; ἐστιν supplies it.
